Sadly it’s the publishers that set the prices. I agree that it should be around $5 instead of $10. But the store, the author, and the publisher want cuts.
Think I’ll wait to see what Apple comes out with. They have a tendancy to blow others “out of the water” with features. Might be worth the wait or, like the others, to expensive. Seems like ebooks books should be cheaper. Less production cost. IMHO
Although ebooks will be 9.99 or so, and less expensive than a hardcover, its more than a soft cover. I hope they can adjust the price once a book’s soft cover is released.
Because it supports WiFi, it would have been nice to have a simple web browser. Lack of keyboard would make it cumbersome. The Apple iPAD could be a choice come Feb. It will cost more but like the iphone, it will constantly improve as you download updates. I wonder if the Nook will receive updates like the iPhone, always evolving and improving.
I really want one of these, but this video seems a bit misleading.
It shows the book scroll moving fluidly and smoothly, and the buttons responding instantly. In every live demo I’ve seen, the books scroll in a very, very choppy manner and the buttons take about 3 to 4 seconds to register and complete the command issued to them.
Which should I believe? Is it really this fluid now, or are they bluffing?
The files are not all that big as you can store ~1500 books on only 2gb of memory. So even if the 3G connection is a bit slower then normal you should still be able to download it. Otherwise you can connect to your own wireless connection or another Wi-Fi hotspot while you are out.
It is coming out by the end of November. Yes it has Wi-Fi connectivity. Yes non-at&t users will be able to use it. You will just be connected to the AT&T 3G network while you are not connected to Wi-Fi. Yes you can read PDF files to it, but not word documents. I am not sure how the music player functions yet. Apple has no affiliation with nook – they are releasing their own e-reader at some point.
They have benn showing bits and pieces of this nook, but never a complete show of everything. When is it coming out? Does it have Wi-Fi? Does non- AT&T users be able to use it on the go? Can you transfer Word doe. or PDF in to? How does the music player work? I guess I’ll just have to wait and see. But there is another question, is Apple helping to advertise this new product or is Barnes and Nobles being a copy cat?
It is like they asked me what I thought was wrong with Kindle 2 and what I would improve and then said “you got it, and on top of that, we’ll put a color navigation touch screen to boot!”
I was “thisclose” to buying a Kindle until I started reading about the Nook. The big points for me were the 1mil+ titles available, the fact that they have free ebooks that I will ACTUALLY read, the SD slot, and-my personal favorite reason-compatibility with my Blackberry. I hear some people complaining about the price. I compared the price of an ebook I wanted on both sites. Amazon actually was higher ($14.25) than the BN version ($9.99). Aren’t the ebooks on BN about to get a price cut anyway?
I hate how they’re bragging about features that are pretty much universal amongst ebook readers, as if B&N were the first to come up with those things. Hey my Kindle2 has a easy to read e-ink display and 3G wireless! I fear the masses are going to accept that propaganda though and start calling every reader a Nook in the generic sense.
all ereaders does that weird flash thing because that’s how the display works. everytime, the flash rewrites the screen so no as of now, no technology surpass this device.
me neither but this looks like it’s finally IT! the best thing is getting rid of those crappy bizarre buttons at bottom that the others have, putting the next and previous where they instinctively belong, the appeal of the color covers at bottom rather than some crappy scan; only thing I wonder is refresh rate, I never liked how the page turning does that weird dissolve flashing but this still looks like the best yet!

Yes, well, 95% of the country does not have access to AT&T’s 3G network. How slow will downloads be for the rest of us? Have to use our PCs?
