Which is the best buy: Kindle, Nook or the Sony e-reader?

I want to get an e-reader within the next few days. Which of the e-readers out there is the best buy? Are they all about the same? I read often and will probably carry it with me all the time.

I will suggest you to go for kindle they are great to use. It has a “text to speech” feature. With this feature you can set the kindle to read the book for you and you can relax listening it. Also its very lighter to carry and has a long battery life.

From the display technology perspective, yes most e readers use the same e Ink technology. But overall, Kindle is hands-down the best selling and most admired by customers.

I own the Kindle 2 and I like it very much. I’ll say if you like to read you’ll definitely like the Kindle.

I’ve mentioned pretty much for Kindle over the Nook here:

    http://answers. yahoo. com/question/index?qid=20091215133036AAQAH0Q

And I’ll say the Kindle 2 instead of Sony Reader. Read here to know more:

It is better than Sony Reader because Amazon provide good content support, and the number of books available in Kindle format is kept on increasing (right now there are 300,000 Kindle books). Sony Reader, however, many users complain that it is difficult to find suitable books.

And the main problem is that books on Sony Reader are much more expensive than that on the Kindle (tips: if you’re outside the U. S. all the Kindle books you see will have a price of US$2 added. But if you choose to download to computer when you check out, the $2 will be waived. So you can get the books US$2 cheaper even if you’re outside the United States, and you can copy the books to your Kindle through USB cable). And many Kindle books, magazines and newspapers are cheaper than the actual paper version. Other benefits of the Kindle over Sony Reader include the free wireless internet access (now available internationally in many countries), and the text-to-speech function.

The refurbished version is cheaper, but it only has free wireless within U. S. , while the new Kindle has free international wireless. And you know, Amazon gave a price drop for the Kindle 2 just before Xmas. It is now at a really good price.

    Hope this helps.

I’ll suggest you to get the Kindle instead of the Nook and Sony Reader. There are much more selection of books, and books on it are cheaper on the Amazon Kindle too.

Read the article here, it mentioned Barnes and Nobles, Sony Reader, and other ebook readers by the end of the review:

I own kindle what i like from kindle is the “text to speech” feature. With this feature you can set the kindle to read the book for you, so you can relax and just listening to your kindle. I say the Amazon Kindle. There are some very good reviews on the Nook and comparison with the Kindle 2 here, guess you’ll be interested:

There 3 you mentioned are really the only 3 eReaders out there that can compete with the top market (and in the same order you mentioned, first teh Kindle, then the Nook and last is the Sony eReader).
I’ll start by saying I use the Kindle and even though I got it just before the Nook was released, I was also in the exact same position you are in. I wasn’t sure which eReader to go with and was actually leaning towards the Nook, mostly for its sleeker look and color design but I was also turned off by the Kindle’s large keyboard. So I decided to look them both up.

Well here’s what I discovered. Yes, the Nook has a better appearance, mostly due the absence of the big keyboard on the Kindle, and the color touchscreen might also seem attractive. But I think Barnes and Noble tried a little too hard on the appearance and a little too less on the features. So at the end of the day, the Nook is better, in terms of its sleeky look, but that’s pretty much it.

As for the Sony eReader, I can only say it’s much more trouble than its worth. Books are slightly more expensive, much harder to find, there is no text-to-speech option, there’s no wireless internet connection and there is only a 512MB storage on Sony while the Kindle has 2GB.

So the best 2 ebook Readers would then be the Kindle and Nook.

Here’s the deal-breaker: The keyboard on the Kindle lets you browse the internet for free, while the the Nook doesn’t. And did I mention the colour design on the screen is only the bottom 1/5 of the screen? Yup, the rest is black and white, just like the Kindle!

Anyway, I ended up getting the Kindle (got my rents to buy me it for my birthday =) and I have to say, I took back all my words about disliking it and Amazon really won me back.

I loved it when I first got it, it was my baby and I treated it as such. Other than the minor, rare occasions when the screen would freeze for a second, or the page I was reading would flip by itself randomly, the Kindle was perfect for me as I am an avid reader and it’s a wonder to read books on in bed. I also just started using it for textbooks. Winter semester starts next month and I’m already getting all my textbooks for the Kindle. Not all textbooks are available for the Kindle but most are available in PDF format which is compatible with Kindle so all’s good.

Another great advantage that the Kindle has over the Nook is the Kindle has a built in web browser with FREE access to the internet in most countries worldwide. That’s just THE most appealing feature about it — other than the awesome little book-reading feature of course ;)

The Nook or any other eBook Reader does not offer internet browsing. Tthe Nook allows you to go online but ONLY to buy books from their store, you can’t browse the internet on the Nook. However with the Kindle, you can use the web browser just like Internet Explorer or Firefox or any other web browser and access any sites you want, any time and anywhere in the U. S. or almost anywhere in the world. And best of all, it is 100% FREE interent access. How cool is that? I still haven’t gotten over this perk of the kindle! And it’s been 2 months since I’ve had it!

At the end of the day, it boils down to this for me:

-the Kindle is THE eReader to purchase. From cheapest book prices (all books are as low as free and at most $9. 99) to free AND wireless web browsing to the most user-friendly interface, Amazon really nailed the eBook Reader game on the head with the Kindle.

-Nook is great, almost as good as the Kindle, but if you even remotely use the internet, you’ll regret buying the Nook as there will definitely be a time when you’re stuck somewhere with no internet access and think “Had I bought the Kindle, I could be checking my email right now”. . . Also some books on the Nook are more than $10.

-as for the Sony eReader, a word from the wise, stay away from it! the Sony eReader is the worst of the top 3 ebook readers (Kindle, Nook and Sony) — in my opinion. My brother (who owns one) is always complaining about not finding the books he wants and the ones he does get are more expensive than the same/similar ones I paid for the Kindle (which are all $9. 99 or less).

If you want a more detailed review of both the Kindle, the Nook or even the Sony ebook Reader, here are some reviews from people who have already used these eReaders.

I own the Kindle 2, and it is easy for me to say I love it! I think I’ve read over 20 books so far.

I love my Kindle because it has helped me improve a lot on my efficiency and utilize my time. Before I owned the Kindle, waiting time like when I’m waiting for friends or waiting for shuttle bus or some thing like that is simply wasted. Now I just need to bring the Kindle 2 along with me. Another thing I like the most is the text-to-speech function, which means I can “read” books without even holding or looking at the Kindle. Now I like to use this function when I’ve myself busy on some boring things, say when I’m on the step machine or doing some housework. . .

I like reading and at the beginning I missed a bit on the feeling of reading books. But now I love to hold the Kindle, the e-ink seems to work very well, it is really like reading books. . . Now I often read with the Kindle for several hours but I don’t feel tired.
